About us

Our story

In 1972, CDMV took its first steps in the Canadian veterinary industry, setting up shop in the premises of a former grocery store in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.

Operating under the name Centre de distribution de médicaments vétérinaires (CDMV), this newly formed company aimed to address the challenges faced by practitioners treating livestock in remote areas.

After modest beginnings, CDMV grew and expanded its offerings, moving from the exclusive distribution of medications to a wide range of products including food, medical equipment, and accessories for production and companion animals. The company also developed value-added services.

In response to growing demand and the acquisition of new market share elsewhere in Canada, CDMV opened additional distribution centres in Calgary (1997), Halifax (2008), and Brampton (2016) near Toronto. These four strategic locations form a solid and reliable network supporting Canadian veterinary clinics and hospitals.

As a distribution leader in Canada, CDMV stands out for its technological innovations such as its warehouse management software, implemented throughout its network, and its transactional platform, which has become the benchmark in the veterinary field.

Focused on CDMV's values of agility, wellness, empathy, efficiency, and listening, its 350 employees work together every day to improve animal welfare. Their concerted actions, expertise, and dedication contribute to the success of CDMV and its partners across Canada.

Contributing to the development of the veterinary community

For 50 years now, CDMV has been actively contributing to the improvement of animal health. Operational excellence is not only the core of our expertise, it is our purpose.

Our effectiveness is nothing short of a strong link helping to provide animal health professionals with the medicine, food and products they need to fulfill their important mission.

Our humble contribution to the development of the veterinary community is one more step toward the transformation and change that our industry is undergoing and will continue to undergo. I strongly believe in our ability to join other players in the field to shape the future of the Canadian veterinary community. I am deeply grateful to our clients, but also to our suppliers, employees, partners and administrators, for the confidence they have shown in our organization.

A positive impact on the community and on animal health

CDMV considers animal well-being and health to be extremely important. Year after year, we get to work with organizations that are dedicated to the same cause. As a major player in the veterinary industry, we feel it’s important to give back to the community and help make a difference.

That’s why we at CDMV support various organizations that are dedicated to facilitating access to veterinary care, to ensuring the safety of wounded or abandoned animals, or to raising awareness among Canadians of animal well-being.

By being actively involved in the activities and events of Canadian associations and professional orders, CDMV humbly plays a role in the development of the veterinary community.

Finally, we wish to reaffirm our everlasting support for the various veterinary institutions who foster the knowledge of tomorrow’s veterinary doctors.
